Something & Son’s work reflects the
teams varied backgrounds and shared passion in art, social enterprise,
the environment and engineering. New technologies are applied to
projects that explore the creation of a more sustainable world. Leading
them to produce popular, provocative and witty work that tackles the big
design and social challenges of our time.
Recent works include FARM:shop (recently named in the design honours
list for 2011 by the New York Times) the worlds first farm in a shop;
CAR:park for the London Festival of Architecture; an architectural
installation at the Gwangju Design Biennale in South Korea directed by
Ai Wei Wei; 300,000km was a sculpture that doubled as a large scale
nesting site for swifts; and for the V&A Museum an installation that
used the heat from compost to make tea. Something & Son are
currently working with Manchester International Festival looking into
the feasibility of doing a vertical farm and for summer 2012 their
largest project to date will be an architectural installation based
around a surreal spa that will help people feel happy.
