Sheffield PARK(ing) Day 2013

Sheffield Dream City invites you to PARK(ing) Day 2013:

We are planning to take part in this years PARK(ing) Day (Friday, 20 September) and would like you to join us. The event is an international initiative and entails renting a metered parking space and staging some non-car activity in it: play space, green space, performance, etc.
The plan is to have a number of pop ups around Division St. between 3-6pm on Friday, but please feel free to do this whenever & wherever you feel like. The interventions do not have to be complicated and it should all be easy and fun.
Please find more information below and get in touch if you find it interesting and would like to take part so we can plan something interesting together.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into temporary public places. The project began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement, with organizations and individuals creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world.
The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!
