Community-led housing in Sheffield

Friday 9th November 2018
4.30-6.30pm
The Holt
156 Arundel Street
Sheffield S1 4RE

What if we had all the ingredients to start developing permanently affordable homes (and workspaces) in Sheffield? It has been done in Leeds, Bristol and even in London, with its prohibitive land values. What if Sheffield, currently lagging behind other cities, could become a beacon of community led development, exploring a range of models to suit its housing needs? This informative and engaging event will share insights from ongoing research on Community Led Housing at Sheffield Hallam University and from experiences in London, Leeds and Oxfordshire, facilitating a dialogue between researchers, local policy makers and citizens who might benefit directly from some forms of non-speculative housing.
The format of the event will be Pecha Kutcha meets Question Time, where a general audience will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of practitioners, researchers and policy makers and to ask questions, shaping the discussion and the direction of the nascent Sheffield Community Land Trust. We have an exciting line up of speakers to give us insights from their trailblazing experiences: Calum Green from London CLTJimm Reed from Leeds Community HomesCharlie Fisher from Oxfordshire CLT and Eleanor Lee from Granby 4 Streets CLT.
This event is part of the ESRC funded Festival of Social Science run in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield, for tickets and more information about other events see: http://festivalofsocialscience.group.shef.ac.uk/
