WORKSHOP RETHINKING THE COMMUNITY LIBRARY
An interactive design workshop rethinking and reinterpreting the library. Can it be a key social, educational and economic community asset? Can they deliver public services and also accelerate enterprise? Can they plug into new opportunities around digital making and media technologies, ensuring technical skills and expertise are available at the heart of Sheffield communities?

THE CAMPUS AND THE CITY
The role and opportunities presented by university campuses in the city will be discussed. Lucy Plumridge, Associate Director of HLM Architects and Mark Swales, Director of Estates and Facilities at Sheffield Hallam University will outline the key drivers for the future development of the City Campus and how this supports the city’s aspirations.
David Rudlin will offer his insights into the broader aspects of designing University campuses in a city context. David is Director of URBED (Urbanism Environment Design) and is co-chair of Sheffield Sustainable Development and Design Panel.

TOUR OF NEW UNIVERSITY TECHNICAL COLLEGE
HLM Architects and UTC Sheffield will provide a tour of the newly open University Technical College Sheffield, which specialises in Advanced Engineering and Creative and Digital Media. A presentation will offer observations on the challenges of developing an innovative new Technical College building that integrates into the quarter and retains the historic Metal Trades building, as well as the broader vision for UTC Sheffield and its role as a catalyst for regeneration.

VISIT TO SELLERS WHEEL
Peter Cartwright from Cartwright Pickard Architects, Dale Fixter and Jonathon Perry, co-owner of Tamper at Sellers Wheel will provide a tour of the refurbished Sellers Wheel, followed by a talk about the renovation and the broader approach to the site. Peter will offer his observations on the challenges and opportunities of working within a strong historic context. Jonathon will talk about the vision for his business and how the sensitive refurbishment of the building has been an important component in realising this.

FUTURECITY: OPEN FOR BUSINESS?
To launch Sheffield Civic Trust’s FUTURECITY programme, this event will be a panel discussion with local business leaders and entrepreneurs being invited to confirm their 'interest' in Sheffield and explain their rationale for investing in the City. Panel members will then be encouraged to suggest how the environment might change for the better in future years. These contributions will inform the subsequent discussions between the panel and the audience.

Throughout the week the Sheffield Society of Architects (SSA) will be exhibiting entries for their Dear Sheffield postcard project within the shop window of the former Woolworth’s / TJ Hughes shop on the Moor. SSA are celebrating their 125th anniversary by collecting people’s anecdotes, photos, drawings and poems of their favourite places in Sheffield.
